Buying guide
How do I check that a second-hand piece is authentic?
For luxury or sneaker brands (Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Nike, Jordan), check the brand's authentication guides online — stitching, font on the tags, serial numbers, sole construction. Ask the seller for the receipt or original packaging. For mainstream brands (H&M, Zara), authentication is rarely a concern.
Which size labels should I expect?
Mauritius mixes EU sizes (34, 36, 38…), UK/US sizes (XS, S, M…) and Asian sizes (which run smaller). Always ask the seller for the actual measurements (chest, waist, length) — try-on isn't always practical.
How should I check the condition?
Look at the photos for visible wear: pilling on knitwear, fading on dark colours, stains, missing buttons, broken zips. Ask "how many times has it been worn?" — sellers usually answer honestly. For shoes, check sole wear and insole condition.
Is it safe to buy clothes second-hand?
Yes, with basic hygiene. Wash everything before wearing — most cottons can be machine-washed at 30°C, wool and silk need dry cleaning. For shoes, a disinfectant spray and new insoles are enough. Underwear and swimwear are best bought new.
